Una Mattina — Einaudi Piano Sheet Music PDF
Ludovico Einaudi’s modern classic in Paul Lorenz’ own solo-piano arrangement. The complete 51-bar score — hear it, read the real first page, then download the PDF instantly.
Una Mattina piano sheet music is easy to find and hard to trust. The free PDFs circulating online are hobbyist transcriptions with guessed voicings and scans you have to squint at; the big libraries hide the file behind an account and a monthly plan. This page offers one thing instead — Paul Lorenz’ own arrangement of Einaudi’s “Una Mattina” for solo piano, as a complete 3-page PDF you can hear, and whose first page you can read in full, before you spend anything.
“Una Mattina” is the title track of Einaudi’s 2004 album and the theme audiences know from the film The Intouchables. It is built on a single quiet right-hand figure over a walking bass, which is precisely what makes it deceptive: there is almost no technical difficulty in it, and almost everything depends on evenness and timing. This edition sets it in A minor at ♩ = 80 and keeps the page deliberately uncluttered, so that what you read is the line itself — engraved by an arranger whose scores have been recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios and performed at the Vienna State Opera.

Choosing an Una Mattina score
Three kinds of “Una Mattina” sheet music circulate, and they are not interchangeable.
| What it is | What to watch for | |
|---|---|---|
| A free transcription | Someone’s ear-copy, shared as a PDF or image | Voicings and rhythms differ from copy to copy; pages are often cut off or unreadable at the foot |
| A subscription library | A licensed file behind an account | The score is usually good; the file is tied to a plan, a reader app, or a number of prints |
| A published edition | An engraved, credited score sold once | You are paying for a named arranger and a page you can actually read — check that you can see it first |
This page is the third kind. The arranger is named, the first page is shown in full, and what you download is a plain PDF at €5.90 with nothing attached to it.

Playing Una Mattina
Almost the whole piece is one gesture. The right hand turns a narrow figure over and over while the left hand walks beneath it in a dotted rhythm, and the music’s effect depends entirely on how level you can keep that figure while the phrase itself breathes. Play the repetitions too expressively and the piece becomes restless; play them mechanically and it goes flat. The answer is usually to let the left hand carry whatever rubato there is and to keep the right hand perfectly still.
From bar 13 the texture inverts for the lyrical middle section — the melody moves into long notes above a running left hand — and settles on a fermata before the opening figure returns. From bar 34 the bass sinks into sustained whole notes under the tune, which is where the piece finally opens up, and a rit. carries the last bars into the closing fermata. It is three pages of music that will sit in a recital, a wedding, a service or a late-evening encore without ever sounding out of place. Una Mattina sheet music — frequently asked questions
Can I hear this arrangement before I buy?
Yes. The player near the top of this page carries a 30-second excerpt from the studio recording of this arrangement, so you can hear the tempo, the touch and the balance between the hands before you decide. Between that and the full first page of the score, you know exactly what you are buying.
What exactly do I get in the Una Mattina PDF?
The complete solo-piano score of “Una Mattina” in Paul Lorenz’ arrangement — 51 bars on three A4 pages, in A minor, at ♩ = 80, delivered as one high-resolution PDF immediately after purchase. There is no shipping, no waiting and no expiry: the file is yours to keep, print and load onto as many of your own devices as you like.
Can I see the sheet music before I buy?
Yes — the whole of page 1. The product image on this page is the actual first page of the PDF; click it to open it at full size and zoom in on the engraving. You can check the notation, the layout and the spacing before spending anything. If you would like to see more of the score first, write to us and we will send you further sample bars personally.
Is this the official Einaudi edition?
No, and it is worth being precise about it: this is Paul Lorenz’ own arrangement of “Una Mattina” for solo piano, engraved and published by Paul Lorenz Music. The underlying composition remains © 2004 Chester Music Limited, as printed on the score. If you specifically need the publisher’s own original edition, that is a different product from a different house — this one is bought for the arrangement and the engraving.
What key and tempo is this arrangement in?
A minor — the score carries no key signature — in 4/4, marked ♩ = 80. The final bars are marked rit. and the piece ends on a fermata. Those are the only tempo indications in the score; the rest of the pacing is left to the player.
How difficult is Una Mattina to play?
It is an intermediate piece, and an unusually honest one: there are no leaps, no dense chords and no awkward stretches. The right hand repeats a narrow semiquaver figure while the left hand walks underneath in a dotted rhythm, and from bar 13 the roles briefly swap for the lyrical middle section. The difficulty is not in the notes but in keeping the figuration perfectly even while the phrase breathes — which is why the piece rewards good players far beyond its apparent level.
Is there a free Una Mattina PDF?
There are many, and they are worth understanding before you download one. Almost all are transcriptions made by ear by other players, so voicings, rhythms and even harmonies vary from copy to copy, and the scans are frequently unreadable at the bottom of a page. They are fine for a first look at a piece. If you intend to learn it properly, perform it, or teach it, a published edition you can read cleanly and return to for years is a different proposition — this one costs €5.90.
May I perform Una Mattina from this score in public?
Your purchase licenses this edition for your own performances — recitals, weddings, church services, recording preparation. “Una Mattina” itself is a protected work (© 2004 Chester Music Limited), so the public performance is licensed and reported as usual by the organiser through the responsible performing-rights society: GEMA in Germany, AKM in Austria, SUISA in Switzerland, ASCAP/BMI/PRS elsewhere. For a commercial recording or a broadcast, please contact us directly first.
Can the arrangement be customised?
Yes. Paul Lorenz offers a bespoke customisation service — a transposition into another key, fingering written in throughout, a simplified left hand for a younger student, or a layout built around a particular tablet. Requests are handled personally and usually take a few days for a piece of this length. Contact us before purchasing so we can quote it.
What is your refund policy?
Because you receive the complete file the moment you pay, downloads cannot be returned. That is exactly why the whole first page is shown on this page at full resolution — please read it, and ask us anything you are unsure about, before you buy. If a file is ever faulty or will not open, write to us and we will fix it personally.
